THE CRUCIBLE (theatre) (7:30 PM - 12:59 AM)
The Crucible
Playhouse, QPAC, South Bank, Brisbane
From 26 Oct to 14 Nov 2009
Hysteria, accusations and rumours run wild as a group of young girls wield a mesmerizing power over the citizens of Salem. Abigail Williams and her friends are caught dancing in the woods late at night. To avoid punishment she claims to have been seduced by witchcraft.
Moral panic spreads through Salem as Abigail accuses many of the leading townsfolk, including the well respected John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth, of worshipping the devil. As the community begins to tear itself apart, no one dares question the girls, or their accusations, for fear of being denounced themselves.
But are the girls telling the truth, or merely lying for their own benefit?
Unjustly condemned by the ferocious Judge Danforth, Proctor and the other accused are faced with a final, terrible moral choice: confess to a crime which they did not commit, or maintain their innocence and hang.
A cast of 19 actors will bring to life the Company's contemporary take on this gripping masterpiece that remains a profound plea for honesty, courage and reason.

ENGINE (7:30 PM - 10:30 PM)
This will be a charged theatrical event.
Every week somewhere in Australia news headlines proclaim yet another tragedy of young lives lost in a car wreck. Communities are shocked, politicians duck for cover and families are torn apart… the same story again and again.
Set a month after the crash, Engine is the story of 'Grumpop' who lost a grandson and Natasha who lost a brother. Natasha wants to remember Stevie by finishing the project car he was working on before the crash. Grumpop is a retired mechanic and he could help but he just wants to put it all behind him.
Two actors play all the characters: parents, grief counsellors, driving instructors, crash dummies, ghosts and survivors. Joining them are three groups of students, from three high schools, who will devise and perform key scenes. Over the year, they'll work with their teachers, NORPA and La Boite to build their unique and authentic contribution.
Engine is a story of young people and cars. It's about fixing what's broken and celebrating life. It's a funny and moving roller-coaster ride that will break your heart and mend it.

NORTHEY ST ORGANIC MARKET (6:00 AM - 10:30 AM)
You can tell the people who visit Northey Street Organic Markets regularly – they come prepared with a trolley or big baskets to carry their freshly harvested, organic produce home. Lots of people seem to know each other, waving greetings and chatting together. It’s got a slow, pleasurable atmosphere – the food is appreciated and no one is trying to flog it off at bargain prices. It’s not the cheapest place to buy but things in season are reasonable. Plus, you can always get more information from the friendly stallholders about where and how it’s grown.
Apart from fruit and vegies, you can also buy organic and fair trade grocery items, fresh juices and tofu, dairy products and artisan bread. I arrived at 9am to find that my favourite bread had already sold out so I’ll have to get up earlier next time. There aren’t stalls selling craft or giftware, it’s purely food.
It’s nice to walk under the large shady trees and it’s not a large market so you can easily walk around it a few times to check prices and browse. It’s a mellow crowd of shoppers. There’s coffee, a fundraising (organic) sausage sizzle and the popular, relaxed open kitchen of the Chai Café.
The markets are next to Northey Street City Farm (one stall is stocked with produce grown 20 metres away – now that’s local!). Walk from the market into the city farm where it’s fun to show the kids the chickens, sit in the sun with your chai tea or coffee and take home some seedlings or other garden supplies from the farm’s nursery.
When: Every Sunday from 6am to 10.30am. Best to get in early for the best produce.
Where: Northey Street, Windsor on the northside.

Every Tuesday night from 6pm The Alibi Room hosts Taco Tuesday.
How do $2 tacos, $3 burritos and $10 nachos sound? Even better with a $4 Corona, Tequila, Frozen Margarita or Sangria? We don’t take bookings on Tuesday nights because to be honest, they are waaaaay too crazy.
We offer beef, chicken or bean. All the fillings are prepared here following secret recipes that James was lucky enough to uncover while doing taco research in East Los Angeles.

$2 TACO's & $3 BURITO's At THE ALIBI ROOM (6:00 PM)
Every Tuesday night from 6pm The Alibi Room hosts Taco Tuesday.
How do $2 tacos, $3 burritos and $10 nachos sound? Even better with a $4 Corona, Tequila, Frozen Margarita or Sangria? We don’t take bookings on Tuesday nights because to be honest, they are waaaaay too crazy.
We offer beef, chicken or bean. All the fillings are prepared here following secret recipes that James was lucky enough to uncover while doing taco research in East Los Angeles.

A cast of 19 actors will bring to life the Company's contemporary take on this gripping masterpiece that remains a profound plea for honesty, courage and reason.

a little bit of everything you’ve dreamed of, the Company, the Menu and
the wine.
Whether you’re in the mood to party, or just feel like a relaxing

the Siana crowd to see which well-known personality is in the house
tonight.
Once you’ve felt our special welcome, you’ll know why everybody’s talking about Siana.
Offering a uniquely Asian experience in the heart of the CBD, Brisbane
restaurant Siana is part of the "new age" of Brisbane. A renaissance

GWEN IN PURGATORY (7:30 PM - 8:30 PM)
Tommy Murphy is one of Australia's most formidable playwrights: canny, dangerous and very funny. His plays include Holding the Man, one of the great success stories of recent Australian theatre and due to open in London's West End.
We're thrilled to be co-producing his luminous new play with the legendary Company B Belvoir, directed by Australia's finest director, Neil Armfield, fresh from his Broadway triumph with Exit the King, which starred Queensland's Geoffrey Rush.
Gwen is 90. She woke up this morning to discover that purgatory is sitting alone in a new house in a new subdivision on the edge of town, trying to work out if the remote in her hand operates the TV, the air-con or the fan-forced oven. But the kids are coming round and Father Ezekiel is on his way to bless the house, so the beginning of the end is looking up...
This is a brilliant comedy about an African missionary in the wilderness of Australian suburbia. It's a vivid illumination of the fear and humour at the heart of Australia's Irish-Catholic inheritance. It's a beautiful and funny portrait of an old life in search of a graceful ending.
